Robert A. Higby, age 78, of Erie, passed away Friday July 13, 2012 at Fairview Manor. Mr. Higby had resided for several years at Manchester Presbyterian Lodge in Fairview.
Robert was born November 18, 1933 in Lawrence Park, a son of the late Walter A. and Alma Jordan Higby.
He graduated from Lawrence Park High School in 1951 and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob worked at the VA Medical Center in Erie and the Asbury Woods Nature Center. He also volunteered at Asbury Woods and Manchester Presbyterian Lodge.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was a ruling elder, taught Bible School, Sunday School, and the Youth Club. He had also been a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. He was a past member of the Lions Club, the Sons of the American Revolution and the Erie County Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wright Higby.
Survivors include a son, Alexander Higby and wife Lori, Erie; a daughter Kathleen N. Martineau and her husband Daniel, Methuen, Massachusetts, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and are invited to services there on Tuesday at 10am with Rev. John Dyke of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment in Erie Cemetery.
