Helen Loretta Bentze Schaal, 95, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at St. Mary's Home at Asbury Ridge.

She was born June 30, 1917 in Erie and was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Bentze Fuller.

She was a faithful member of Luther Memorial Church. Helen was a beloved wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 68 years, Clarence R. "Junie" Schaal; and five brothers and sisters, Frank, Michael and Carl Bentze, Agnes Johnson and Dorothy Peterson.

Helen is survived by one daughter, Suzanne Franks of Erie; two sons, Alan C. Schaal and his wife, Patricia and Craig W. Schaal and his wife, Loretta of Erie; two grandsons, Brian Franks and his wife, Danielle and Adam Franks, all of Pittsburgh; two granddaughters, Jennifer Schaal of Cary, NC and Halle Schaal of LaJolla, CA; two step-grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnson, Jr., and his wife, Lora and Erin Johnson of Erie. Four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and their families also survive.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Avenue) on Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Luther Memorial Church, 225 West 10th Street, Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM, conducted by the Reverend J. David Mumford.

Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their thanks and grateful praise to the nursing staff of St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge for their loving care of our mother and family during her time there.
