Louis B. "Red" Weed, age 86, of McKean, PA passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at his daughter's residence in New Jersey.
He was born on July 17th, 1926 in Delhill, PA, the son of the late Clair and Nettie Lyons Weed. On January 8th, 1948, in the Bethel Baptist Church he married Jean Marie McCollum, who preceded him in death on October 13, 2005.
He is survived by a son, Lynn Louis Weed and his wife, Donna, of Huber Heights, Ohio; a daughter, Linda Jean and her husband, Greg DeAngelis, of Cranbury, New Jersey; four grandsons and four great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, Rickey; a sister, Arlene; six brothers, Richard, Kay, Dale, Lynn, Norman and Dennis; a grandson, Nathan DeAngelis and great-grandson John Patrick Weed Jr. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Norma Kuhl and her husband Norbert and Judy Pennsy and a brother-in-law Fred McCollum.
He was a longtime resident of the Erie area and graduated from Erie Tech High School, class of 1944. He was a veteran of the United States Army, WWII and he retired in 1988 as a semi-truck driver from Lyons Transportation Services after 43 years of service. Red was President and Treasurer of Lyons Trans Credit Union for 12 years, Erie Chapter President for 2 years. He was a member of Perry Keystone Lodge #392 F. & A.M., the Erepa Grotto, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Erie, Zem Zem Temple Shrine Club, and the Siebenbuerger Club. As a member of Zem Zem Temple Shrine, he was Commander of the Legion of Honor 1989, Grand Marshall 1990-2004 and Noble of the Year 1994.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th (at Powell Ave.) Monday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM and are invited to attend a service there Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 with Rev. Dan Owen officiating.
Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Erie Shriners Ambulatory Surgery Center and Outpatient Specialty Care Center, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie PA 16505.
The Perry Keystone Lodge # 392 F. & A.M. will conduct a service Monday evening at the funeral home at 7:00 PM.
