Robert E. Johns, age 74, of Millcreek, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at UPMC Hamot, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on October 18, 1937, son of the late Hugh and Mary Katharine Gebhard Johns.
Robert was a graduate of Uniontown High School and West Virginia University.
He served in the United States Air Force and then worked as a manager at G.T.E for 27 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint Paul and also a member of Laurel Lodge # 657 F. and A.M., Zem Zem Temple, and Millcreek Legion #773. He is survived by his wife, Rose Ann Flaherty Johns; a daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Parmerter and her husband Brad; two sons, William (Bill) Johns and Robert (Bob) Johns and his wife Julie, all of Erie; a sister, Katharine duFour and her husband Dave of Concord, MA; seven grandchildren, Blake and Shelby Parmerter, Ethan Dietz, Connor, Elizabeth, Madison, and Jackson Johns; one niece, Indica Martin; five nephews, Mark and Scott duFour, Brian (deceased), Paul, and Michael Kapnicky; and good friends, Judith Koehler and John Hummell, also survive. The Johns Family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the caring staff at UPMC Hamot, particularly the MICU staff, specifically Krista, Lyndsey and Sean.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue,) on Tuesday from 2 until 5 and 7 until 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral service at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul, 134 West Seventh Street, Erie, PA 16501, at 11 a.m. with the Very Reverend John P. Downey, Dean officiating.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
