Monica Mary Dobry, age 88, of Fairview, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012, at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge. Born August 24, 1924, in Erie, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Tyczkowski Barczynski.
Monica was a graduate of Erie Business College and was employed as an accountant by Sterling Seal Co. (now New Market Corp.) for over 40 years. She enjoyed traveling across the country to visit her children and grandchildren. Monica also enjoyed ceramics. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard.
Monica was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Walter Dobry, in 2008, her sisters, Leona Barczynski and Theresa Winston, and a brother, John Barczynski. She is survived by five children: Clifford Dobry of Fairview, Cynthia Price and her husband James of Chattanooga, TN, Kathryn McCann and her husband Philip of Greensboro, NC, Richard Dobry and his wife Karen of Longboat Key, FL, and Andrew Dobry and his wife Natalie of Berryville, VA: a sister, Otillia Schiller, a brother Joseph Robert Barczynski, seven grandchildren: Kristen Cross and her husband Kevin of Ballwin, MO, Margaret Krom and her husband Jason of Hummelstown, Elizabeth McCann of New York, NY, Michael Dobry of Fairfax, VA, Carolyn McCann of Greensboro, NC, and Kyle and Alex Dobry, both of Berryville, VA; two great grandchildren, Matthew and Emma Krom; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Chapel at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. William Fischer presiding. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Avenue, Girard, PA 16417 and St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge, 4855 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506.
