Dorothy J. DeVitt, age 89, of the Garden Homes at Springhill and formerly of Watson Road in Millcreek, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at her residence.
She was born in Marietta, Ohio on April 22nd, 1923 daughter of the late Walter N. and Loah (Frost) Dow. She was a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, OH, with a BA in Education. She was employed by American Airlines as a stewardess from 1945 to 1949 and flew to many cities in the United States. Dottie and her late husband Bob loved to travel. She had a special interest in the West, Europe and the far East.
She was a member of the Wayside Presbyterian Church, Hamot Aid Society, National Kiwi Club, Orchesis (National Dance), Carpe Diem, Meals-on-Wheels, and formerly of Visiting Nurse Association, Erie Arts Center and Lake Shore Country Club. In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert (Bob) DeVitt, a daughter-in-law Barbara Donovan DeVitt, a brother, Gordon N. Dow, her sister-in- law Glenna R. Dow, and a nephew, Ronald N. Dow of San José, CA.
She is survived by three sons; Douglas J. DeVitt of Weston, MA, Donald R. DeVitt and his wife Barbara Nadeau DeVitt of Marblehead, MA and Michael D. DeVitt of Deming, NM; two granddaughters, Alexandra DeVitt of Weston, MA and Megan DeVitt of Chittenden Vt.; and a niece, Renay D. Crews of Camas, WA.
Friends may call at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 1208 Asbury Road Erie, Pa, 16505 on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service there at 12:00 noon with Rev. James Haas and Rev. Keith Sundberg officiating. Burial will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
