Gertrude Ellen King, 98, of Erie, died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Center, Meadville, PA.
Born in Mill Village January 28, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Jessie Davis King.
Miss King was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and earned her Masters degree from Western Reserve University.
She had taught school in Fairview Township, Allegheny County and East High School.
She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and had served with the Red Cross overseas during World War II from 1943 to 1946.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters: Esther Clark and Mabel Schaefer.
Survivors include two nephews, Jack Clark, Spring, TX and Clarence Schaefer, Union City; a niece, Judy Hodges, of Sebastian, FL; and a great-niece, Erin Richardson and her husband CJ.
A memorial service will be held at Wesbury's McCracken Chapel in Cribbs Residential Center 31 N. Park Avenue in Meadville on Friday at 1:30pm with the Reverend Phil Torre officiating.
Burial will be Mill Village Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street.
