Henry R. "Hank" Asplund, age 84, formerly of West 10th Street, Erie, died on Tuesday October 16, 2012.

He was born in Erie on February 11, 1928, son of the late Karl H.B. and Kaia Asplund.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served for a year in Japan during the occupation at the end of WWII. He graduated from Colestock High School in Titusville and attended Penn State University. He spent ten years with Protane Gas in Titusville, Cleveland, and Greensburg. He then settled in Erie and worked in the home improvement division of Sears, retiring after 30 years.

He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, Lawrence Lodge 708 F.&A.M., Zem Zem Temple Shrine, and Trout Unlimited. He also served Meals on Wheels for many years, was a Red Cross volunteer, and was president of the Sears Retirees association.

He was especially fond of spending time with family and friends at their Warren County cabin where there was fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lydia Davey Asplund; a son, Craig Asplund and his wife Peggy of Hebron, OH; a daughter, Carol Asplund Kenny of Euclid, OH; a brother, Kenneth Asplund of Tucson, AZ. He is further survived by six grandchildren, Sarah, Christopher, Martin, Danielle, Kendra, and Garik, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. (at Powell Ave.), Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a service in the Burton chapel at 11:00 a.m on Saturday.

Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
