Ruth M. Barber, 79, of Twinbrook Nursing Home at 3805 Field Street, Lawrence Park, died Monday, February 1, 2010, at St. Vincent Health Center. Born in Darien, NY, on December 13, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Esther Klein Bell. Ruth had been employed at Rich Foods in Lake City. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, puzzles and especially spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1997 by her husband Fred W. Barber; her maternal grandparents, who raised her from the age of six weeks due to the accidental death of her parents; a daughter Dorothy Christine; two sons Walter Lee Barber and Frederick William Barber, Jr.; and a grandson Tristan Barber. She is survived by two daughters: Catherine Barber of Syracuse, NY, Carol Szczesny and her husband Jimi of DuBois; 5 sons: William Barber and his wife Sandy, Thomas Barber and Donald Barber, all of Erie, John Barber and his wife Lynn of Union City, Robert Barber and his wife Betty of Girard; 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in Burton's All Faiths Chapel with Dennis Chludzinski officiating.
