Travis M. Griffith, 81, formerly of Girard, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010, in Williamstown, Kentucky. He was a proud Army veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War. Travis was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Nolan Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and a Shriner. He pursued several careers including restaurant management, owning a restaurant and selling commercial food, and concluded his work life with real estate sales. For the many years Travis and his wife Lucy were active members of the Girard Presbyterian Church. He had a gift for cooking, and all who knew him knew he expressed his love through wondrous meals and desserts.
Travis was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lucy, two sons Jeff and Jim, and grandson Grant. He is survived by a son Joel Griffith (Janet), a daughter Jeannene Schaffnit (Daria), seven grandchildren: Jacob, Scoty, Jeff, Garrett, Brian, Stacy and Jessica; seven great grandchildren: Michael, Christian, Landon, Lane, Braidan, Tristan and Ava; and numerous nieces and nephews, including his much-adored Diane.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in Burton's All Faiths Chapel with Rev. James Rimmer officiating. Burial will be at Girard Cemetery. You may send flowers and condolences at www.burtonfuneralhome.com.
