Marilyn Ruth Cook Bergquist, age 76, of Fairview, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Erie on July 15, 1934, and was the oldest child of the late Cassius Cook and Eleanor Welch Cook.
Marilyn graduated from Villa Preparatory School and attended Villa College.
Marilyn worked at Cook's Markets where she met her husband Arnie. She later was a secretary/bookkeeper for Erie Sand and Gravel Co. She was a member of Holy Cross Church where she taught CCD. Marilyn was very active in book clubs and Gourmet Club. She loved to travel, especially with her husband. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Michael J. Bergquist, an infant daughter Kirsten Bergquist, an infant grandson Joseph Bergquist, an infant sister Kathleen Cook, and a brother-in-law James Reisenberg.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Arnold; a daughter Anne Shore, husband David, of Chesapeake, VA; a son John Bergquist, wife Diann, of McKean; a daughter-in-law Lisa Bergquist of North East; and 10 grandchildren: Michael's children Kristen, Ryan, Olivia, and Keegan Bergquist and Cameron Cancilla; John's children Marie, Matthew, Abigail and Sarah Bergquist; and Anne's daughter Julia Shore.
She is further survived by her siblings: Eileen Reisenberg of The Villages, FL; Kathryn Hoffman (James) of The Villages, FL; Judith Ann Henderson (William) of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; Tim Cook of Sacramento, CA; Mary Bolash (William) of The Villages, FL; Eleanor Shankle (Calvin) of Port St. Lucie, FL; John M. Cook (Joanne) of Erie; and Dennis F. Cook (Jan) of Erie.
She had many wonderful care givers and friends who were like family including Georgia Ruhl who has been with her since her stroke twenty years ago, and Peg Mallin, who visited her every Friday.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street at Powell Avenue, today, Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday at Holy Cross Church, 7100 W. Ridge Rd., Fairview, from 10am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon, with Marilyn's cousin, Rev. John Fischer, presiding. A reception will follow.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
